5 (+1) unique aspects of Hellblade
Passed with a great delay Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice (2017). I’ll tell you exactly what she pleasantly surprised me (especially in 2023, when AAA developers only dream of how to drag you into your many hours of jerking in the open world, and not about how to make an interesting game).
(*For those who have been in a tank for all these years, Hellblade is a corridor game of a short duration in which you play for a crazy pagan warrior who is moving through any fantastic freaks to the goddess of hell to return to the life of a deceased beloved. You will engage in fights on swords and puzzles).
What pleased
1. Sound, aimed at transferring the chisa of the main character – this is the main feature of the project, which is already described by everyone, so briefly: the vile voices in Senua’s head will drive volumetric effects very convincingly, really confused during the game, and also force them to doubt their sanity (0_O)
2. From the first frames hooked The image of the main character. The authors decided to make it honestly, without “bright chips” as in Joe-Jjo or in the games of Kojima, so the character is perceived by a really living person. Senua does not look like a model, it is not asshole, not thin, not bad, not stupid. She does not tremble 24/7, trying to keep your attention, at the same time she does not roll into cardboard pathos, such as Emily from Dishonored 2, which speaks with quotes of the wolf and only with gloomy mugs.
Senua is simply a https://agentspinscasino.co.uk/ pleasant, understandable and living person who empathizes, even though her remarks are designed in the spirit of an epic, mythical narrative. As befits a living person, she is afraid, shakes in pain, cries, and only after that she gets up with difficulty and goes to drag again. Straight eyes rejoices!
3. In many ways, the impression of the character helps to make Katsen, which have interesting specifics due to the fact that the heroine of trouble with the head. When she talks with hallucinations, the player does not look from behind, but from the face of hallucinations, that is, right into the eyes of Senua, full of grief and horror. I immediately want to note chic facial animations, everything looks very vividly and penetrating.
4. There is no Hellblade No interface. You can of course see the control and everything else in the pause menu, but nothing is displayed during the game, not commented, the developers never tell the buttons and generally do not give training. Surprisingly, this does not create problems. Part of the described functions, in addition, take on the voices in the head of Senua: for example, in battle they tell them how to win, warn about attacks from the back and even reveal some gameplay features (and right there, by the way, when you miss the blows, they are ridiculously talking with each other with phrases in the spirit of “She will die …”, “They are stronger than them!“,“ She can’t defeat … „,“ Run away, run away from here!“).
Simplicity refers not only to the mechanics of the game, but also to the narrative, to the environment. The plot is provided with simple means, the levels are linear and (usually) intuitively understandable.
5. Very good ending. Recently, I have passed several indie games that affect difficult problems, with very big complaints about thoughtfulness, but the developers simply did not export them by the end of the game, from which, instead of the bold point, there was a mean farting in a puddle that did not satisfy the long-suffering player. In Hellblade, stress and emotional discomfort also accumulate for a long time, raising the betting rate of all higher, and in the end, despite even the dynamics, all your works pay off and catharsis (I have, in any case, 100 100!). Apparently, the game had a good screenwriter: he developed all the twigs, by the end all the tails braided, and even the organic tank left for the sequel. Ah yes bitch son!
Bonus
This item is better not to read if you haven’t played the game yet. The impression will not spoil much, but still:
At the beginning of Hellblade they make it clear that if you die here too often, there will be a game over and you have to start from scratch. Therefore, because of the new opponents you are nervous, you are afraid of an unknown, you meet bosses with new muvas, as in general, as the inhabitants of Mars, not understanding what to expect.
Yes, only after the passage I found out that all this is liability! At least you will die a hundred times, but the game will not end. That is, you are forced to get nervous and be neat, as in a horned, but at the same time, no one is going to take a head in a shit in shit. But you don’t know about it;)
